Anti-Car Break Detail Leads to the Arrest of Three Juvenile Suspects

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday December 24th at approximately 4:20 a.m. Springfield Police Officers under the direction of Lt. Aaron Butler working an anti-car break detail arrested three juveniles on Derryfield Avenue.

Due to an uptick of car-breaks in the East Forest Park and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods officers were working an anti-car break detail in the early morning hours of December 24th.  Officers observed a suspect pulling on a car door in a driveway on Chesterfield Avenue.  There was also a car idling in front of the driveway.  As the suspect and driver saw the officers, the suspect took off on foot and the driver sped away.

The driver crashed at the intersection of Derryfield Avenue and South Branch Parkway.  Two suspects got out of the car and began to run.  Officers set up a perimeter and K9 Dex tracked the suspects.  Officers apprehended a 15 year old suspect in the backyard of a home on Derryfield Avenue.  Officers continued a foot pursuit and placed a 13 year old suspect in the backyard of another home on Derryfield Avenue.  A third suspect, a 17 year old, was taken into custody after hopping a fence on Derryfield Avenue.  The car the suspects crashed was stolen.

The juveniles face charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and larceny.
