Dirt Bike Rider Attempts to Disarm an Officer

Springfield, Mass. — On Monday July 4th at approximately 6:30 p.m. Springfield Police Officers arrested 48-year-old Vicente Solano after he attempted to disarm a police officer.

Around 6:20 p.m. officers responded to the area of Bay Street and Girard Avenue for a crash involving a dirt bike and a car.  When officers arrived the dirt bike rider, later identified as Solano, took off running.  After a foot pursuit officers spotted Solano behind a tree on Marion Street.  Solano pushed an officer in the chest and fell on top of the officer.  Solano began grabbing at the officers duty-belt pulling on the O.C. spray, ripping the belt and began grabbing the top of the officer’s firearm.  At this point assisting officers were able to secure Solano and place him under arrest.

48-year-old Vicente Solano of Springfield is charged with:

  • Assault & Battery on a Police Officer
  • Assault & Battery – Attempt to Disarm a Police Officer
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
  • Arrest Warrant
