Loaded Firearm Recovered as SPD C3 Unit Clears Park after Dark
Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday August 7th at approximately 2:00 a.m. members of the North End C3 Unit under the direction of Lt. Julio Toledo seized a loaded firearm, additional ammunition and oxycodone while arresting four suspects on the 0-100 block of State Street.
Officers were conducting traffic control in the Riverfront Park area when they observed about a dozen cars in the parking lot as well an numerous people standing outside the vehicles. All city parks close at dusk, so officers began to disperse the crowd.
Officers observed one vehicle without an inspection sticker and an after-market exhaust and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Jeibrian Merced, did not have a driver’s license. Officers then located oxycodone on Jeibrian Merced and ammunition inside a bag. Inside the car officers recovered a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number. Jeibrian Merced and the three passengers, Julian Merced, Daniel Walker and Rashel Pena were all arrested.
In February 2022, Jeibrian Merced was arrested on firearms charges and that case remains open.

- Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card
- Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Modified Exhaust
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with an Expired Inspection Sticker
- Possession of a Class B Drug
20-year-old Julian Merced of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm without a Defaced Serial Number
18-year-old Daniel Walker of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm without a Defaced Serial Number
23-year-old Rashel Pena of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm without a Defaced Serial Number
