Murder Suspect Returned to Springfield, Expected to be Arraigned Friday

Springfield, Mass — On Thursday June 30th Springfield Police Detectives under the direction of Captain Trent Duda traveled to Rykers Island Correctional Facility in New York and transported 35-year-old Brandon Murray back to Springfield Police Headquarters to face murder charges.

On Sunday May 29th Springfield Police Officers responded to the Saga Nightclub on the 0-100 block of Worthington Street for a report of a shooting.  Officers located a gunshot victim, later identified as 30-year-old David Carrasquillo, who succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The Springfield Police Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Duda immediately began investigating and on June 3rd Detectives requested and were granted a warrant for the arrest of Murray on murder charges.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday June 23rd members of the United States Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force arrested Murray inside an apartment in the Bronx, NY on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant for murder charges.

Murray is expected to be arraigned in Westfield District Court on Friday July 1st.  His booking photo will be available after his arraignment.

35-year-old Brandon Murray of Springfield is charged with:

  • Murder
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Firearm without a FID Card – Subsequent Offense
  • Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Distribution of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
