Proactive Work by Springfield Officers leads to the Arrest of a Habitual Car-Breaker

Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday June 12th at approximately 2:45 a.m. Springfield Police Officers arrested 41-year-old Carlos Vergara on the 0-100 block of East Park Street for breaking into a motor vehicle and other charges.   Vergara previously had 51 adult arraignments, including 21 arraignments for past break-ins.

Officers were on patrol Sunday morning when they heard the sound of glass breaking and observed an individual, later identified as Vergara, partially inside a car.  As officers began to investigate, Vergara got on a bicycle and attempted to flee.  The officers caught up to Vergara and detained him pending the investigation.

Officers located a bag filled with women’s clothing, an iPhone and jewelry.  Officers then recovered a screw driver and other tools associated with car-breaks.  A victim was able to identify the items stolen from the car.  Officers placed Vergara under arrest.

41-year-old Carlos Vergara of Springfield is charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle at Nighttime for a Felony
  • Larceny over $1200
  • Possession of Burglarious Instruments
