SPD Detective Bureau Investigation Leads to an Arrest in Monday’s Shooting

Springfield, Mass. —   A Springfield Police Department Detective Bureau investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda has led to an arrest in Monday afternoon’s shooting on Mill Street.

On Monday December 20th at approximately 12:45 p.m. Springfield Police Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Mill Street for a ShotSpotter Activation.  As officers arrived they located an adult male gunshot victim and administered first aid until the victim was transported to Baystate.  The victim suffered serious life threatening injuries.

The Springfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau began investigating.  The investigation revealed that an argument began and multiple people started fighting.  During the fight an individual pulled out a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.  Detectives identified the suspect as Sean Alexander.  On Monday afternoon Detectives requested and were issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday morning Alexander turned himself into Springfield Police Headquarters.  Alexander was expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Thursday.

41 year old Sean Alexander of Springfield is charged with:

  • Firearm Armed Assault to Murder
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
