SPD Firearms Investigation Unit, Holyoke Police Seize Loaded, Stolen Firearm Thursday 

Holyoke, Mass. — On Thursday November 18th at approximately 2:30 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan with the assistance of the Holyoke Police Department under the direction of Captain Matthew Moriarty arrested 23 year old Anthony Espinosa and seized a loaded firearm.

Springfield Detectives have been conducting a illegal firearms investigation for the past several months with Espinosa as the suspect.  On Thursday Detectives received information that Espinosa was in possession of a firearm.  Detectives located Espinosa driving in Springfield and maintained surveillance as he drove into Holyoke.  Captain Keenan at this point contacted the Holyoke Police Department for their assistance.  Shortly after Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the 200 block of South Street in Holyoke.

Detectives detained Espinosa and located a loaded firearm in his fanny pack.  Holyoke officers courtesy booked Espinosa before he was brought to Springfield Police Headquarters.  The firearm was reported stolen out of Arizona.

The Springfield Police Department has seized 230 illegally possessed firearms in 2021.

23 year old Anthony Espinosa of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
