On Friday August 27th at approximately 7:30 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Lt. Brian Beliveau recovered a loaded Ghost Gun and a high capacity magazine from a 15 year old suspect.
For several days Detectives in the Firearms Investigation Unit have been investigating a juvenile male for the illegal possession of a high capacity firearm. On Friday Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the juvenile’s home.
Prior to executing the warrant Detectives observed the juvenile on Belmont Avenue and attempted to detain him. The juvenile attempted to run away while holding his waistband. The juvenile fell and then Detectives were able to move in and secure the suspect. Detectives recovered a loaded Ghost Gun from his shorts.
Detectives then executed the search warrant and seized a high capacity 31 round magazine loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition. Due the juvenile’s age no further information can be released.
In the first month since Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood announced the creation of the Firearms Investigation Unit, members of the Unit have seized 15 illegally possessed firearms.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
