On Tuesday August 24th at approximately 8:25 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit and Emergency Services Unit under the direction of Lt. Brian Beliveau arrested 23 year old Milan Brown on firearms and drug charges.
After an investigation over the course of several weeks, Tuesday night Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for Mr. Brown’s home on Phillips Avenue. Detectives and due to the type of firearm involved members of the Emergency Services Unit executed the search warrant and detained Mr. Brown.
During the search Detectives recovered an AR-15 Rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, 48 additional rounds of ammunition, more than $7300 and a large bag of marijuana.
Three months ago on May 18th Detectives arrested Mr. Brown while he was in possession of a Ghost Gun loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition. Brown was out on bail pending the outcome of that case.
“The Firearms Investigation Unit has seized ten illegally possessed guns in less than a month and continues to do incredible work in dangerous situations to keep our community safe. The majority of the guns recovered are high capacity firearms, but this type of weapon seized Tuesday night should not under any circumstances be in the wrong hands. I along with Mayor Sarno hope that being in possession of a Ghost Gun and AR-15 in the past three months will be enough for this individual to be held,” said Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.
Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank and applaud Commissioner Clapprood and her brave and dedicated men and women in blue for their tireless efforts in getting these guns and repeat violent offenders off our streets, especially the new Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan. Time and time again our SPD arrest repeat violent offenders on serious gun charges, and time and time again our courts show that they do not care for the wellbeing or safety of our residents and business community and that there are no consequences these criminal actions. Once again, our brave and dedicated SPD arrested an individual on gun charges and once again they re-arrested them on another serious gun charge. Back in May, SPD arrested this particular individual with a ‘ghost gun’ and our courts ‘in their wisdom’ decided to release him out on bail and back into our community. Well what do you know, our SPD picked him again, this time he upgraded his arsenal – SPD recently arrested this individual with an AR-15. Thankfully, they got to him before he could use this weapon in manner that could have hurt or possible killed someone. Again, I urge and plead with our courts to take action and hold these individuals response for the consequences of the serious crimes they are being arrested on before God forbid the next time our SPD arrest this individual it might be for murder and another innocent loss of life in our community that could have been avoided if our courts just did their job and keep these violent repeat offenders off our streets and out of our neighborhoods.”
