SPD Firearms Investigation Unit Seized High Capacity Gun, 270+ Grams of Cocaine

Springfield, Mass. — During the afternoon and early evening hours on Thursday February 3rd members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan seized a large capacity semi-automatic firearm, more than 270 grams of cocaine, additional ammunition, more than 110 bags of heroin and cash after executing three search warrants and making four arrests.

Firearms Investigation Unit Detectives have been conducting an investigation with Enrique Cruz-Rosario as a suspect.  Detectives applied for and were granted three search warrants connected to this investigation at homes on the 200 block of Central Street, the 100 block of Renee Circle and a vehicle.

On Thursday Detectives were conducting surveillance of Enrique Cruz-Rosario on Central Street when he and a male, later identified as Raul Cruz-Rosario, got into a car and drove to the 600 block of Center Street in Chicopee.  During this time Detectives observed a drug transaction take place.  Both cars involved then drove away.

Springfield Police Officers conducted a traffic stop of one the suspect vehicles at the intersection of Walnut Street and Oak Street in Springfield.  Officers recovered multiple bundles of heroin and cocaine crumbs.  The two occupants of the car were arrested and charged with drug possession.

Detectives then conducted a traffic stop of the other car involved at a gas station on the 0-100 block of West Street in Chicopee.  Both Enrique Cruz-Rosario and Raul Cruz-Rosario were detained.  Detectives recovered various amounts of cocaine and heroin in a fanny pack worn by Enrique Cruz-Rosario.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Detectives executed a search warrant at a home on the 200 block of Central Street and recovered a loaded high capacity semi-automatic firearm, additional ammunition and approximately 265 grams of cocaine.  Detectives also executed a search warrant at a home of the 100 block of Renee Circle and recovered additional heroin.

32 year old Enrique Cruz-Rosario and 42 year old Raul Cruz-Rosario both of Springfield are charged with:

  • Trafficking in Cocaine 200 Grams or More
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm without a FID Card
  • Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card (2 Counts)
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Distribution of a Class A Drug
  • Distribution of a Class B Drug
