On Tuesday August 10th at approximately 7:00 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit seized an illegally possessed loaded firearm and made two arrests.
On Tuesday Detectives in the Firearms Investigation Unit received information that a 17 year old suspect was currently in possession of a firearm. Detectives located the suspect in the passenger seat of a car on Ronald Drive.
Detectives approached the idling car and detained the driver, later identified as Giovanni Charles, and the juvenile passenger. Detectives seized a firearm from the juvenile’s pants pocket.
Mr. Charles, who was arrested on firearms charges in August 2020, was arrested for being unlicensed.
The recovered firearm was reported stolen out of North Carolina.
The juvenile was arrested and faces firearms charges.
21 year old Giovanni Charles of Springfield is charged with:
• Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
