SPD FIU Detectives Arrest Suspect Twice in a Month with an Illegal Firearm

Springfield, Mass. — Springfield Police Detectives in the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) arrested 19-year-old Giovanni Ramirez twice in December and seized two loaded firearms.

FIU Detectives initially arrested Ramirez and two other suspects on December 7th, seizing three illegal firearms.  Ramirez was released on bail and arrested again with an illegal firearm a few weeks later.

On December 30th, members of the SPD FIU received information that Ramirez was again in possession of a loaded firearm.

Around 4:45 p.m. Detectives located Ramirez in a parking lot on the 600 block of Belmont Avenue.  Detectives conducted a traffic stop of his truck and located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle along with additional ammunition, marijuana and cash.  Detectives placed Ramirez under arrest.

After his second arrest, a Judge revoked the bail from his previous case and Ramirez is being held.  His next court date is scheduled for January 9th.

19-year-old Giovanni Ramirez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug​
