SPD FIU Detectives Seize 4 Firearms, including 2 Ghost Guns

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday January 20th at approximately 7:30 a.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Chicopee Police seized four firearms, including two “Ghost Guns” and arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male.

Springfield Police FIU Detectives have been conducting an illegal firearms investigation for the past several weeks with this juvenile as a suspect.

On the morning of January 20th Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the juvenile’s home on the 0-100 block of Broadway Street in Chicopee.

Around 7:30 a.m. while preparing to execute the search warrant Detectives observed the suspect leave the home with two other people, get into a car and drive away.  Detectives then conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and the three individuals were detained pending the execution of the search warrant.

Detectives then executed the search warrant at the home and recovered a “Ghost Gun” loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 21 rounds, a second firearm, a third firearm loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 20 rounds and a fourth firearm (second “Ghost Gun”) loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 31 rounds.

Additionally, during the search Detectives seized three bags of heroin, more than 110 rounds of ammunition and a laser light attachment to a firearm.

Officers arrested the 16-year-old juvenile and released the other two individuals who were in the car.  Due to his age, no further details can be released at this time.
