SPD FIU Detectives Seize Firearm & Drugs from Suspect Outfitted with a GPS Ankle Bracelet

Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday November 30th at approximately 7:55 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan along with members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department seized a loaded firearm, trafficking weight of cocaine, heroin, MDMA and arrested 43-year-old Edwin Harrison who was wearing a GPS Ankle Bracelet at the time.

For the past several weeks Detectives have been conducting an illegal firearms and narcotics investigation with Harrison as the suspect.  On Wednesday Detectives observed Harrison conduct a drug transaction on the 100 block of Mill Street.  Detectives then located the other involved party and seized crack-cocaine from an adult female who was placed under arrest on a drug possession charge.

While this was occurring, Detectives continue to surveil Harrison as he drove to the Prospect Street area.  As Harrison parked, Detectives conducted a traffic stop.  Harrison then drove his car in reverse, onto the sidewalk and attempted to evade the police.  The car struck a parked vehicle and Harrison fled on foot.  Detectives were then able to locate Harrison hiding on a roof of a carport on Grosvenor Street.  Detectives took Harrison into custody and located a loaded firearm on top of the carport and approximately 16 grams of cocaine.  Detectives also seized $467 in cash from Harrison, an additional 28 grams of crack-cocaine, 97 bags of heroin and 45 pills believed to be MDMA in the vicinity of the carport.

Harrison has previous convictions of firearm, Assault and Battery with a Knife and cocaine distribution charges.

43-year-old Edwin Harrison of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Cocaine Trafficking 36-100 Grams
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (4 Counts)
  • Parole Warrant Violation
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Distribution of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug – Subsequent Offense
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
