SPD FIU Detectives Seize Firearm, Suspected Fentanyl Friday
Springfield, Mass. — On Friday September 16th at approximately 5:30 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit and Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm, suspected fentanyl and arrested 22-year-old Izin Curbelo at a home on Bowdoin Street.
Around 4:50 p.m. Springfield Police Officers responded to the 500 block of State Street for a gun call involving a suspect pointing a firearm at another individual(s) during a disturbance. The suspect, later identified as Curbelo, drove away before officers arrived.
Detectives in the Firearms Investigation Unit were able to locate a car matching the suspect vehicle on the 0-100 block of Bowdoin Street. Detectives conducted surveillance in the area and located the suspect. Six individuals, including Curbelo, were detained pending the investigation.
Inside the home Detectives recovered a loaded firearm, two BB Pistols and more than 100 bags of suspected fentanyl. Curbelo was placed under arrest. The other individuals were released.
22-year-old Izin Curbelo of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without a License
- Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
