SPD FIU Detectives Seize Two Loaded Firearms, K9 Yogi Assists in Locating Gun, Drugs

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday May 6th at approximately 4:55 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Lt. Brian Beliveau along with members of the Metro Unit, K9 Unit and Squad Officers seized two loaded firearms, four bundles of heroin and cocaine while arresting 21-year-old Robin Liberte and 24-year-old Luis Semprit.

On Friday FIU Detectives received information that Semprit was in possession of a firearm.  Detectives were aware that Semprit has previously been convicted in Hampden County Superior Court on firearms and drug charges, including the illegal sale of firearms.   Detectives located Semprit on the 0-100 block of Lombard Street with several other individuals.  Semprit was detained and Detectives located a loaded firearm in his waistband.

One of the individuals in the group, Liberte, attempted to run from the police.  After a foot pursuit Springfield Police Officers detained Liberte near the intersection of Main and Marble Streets.  K9 Officer Scott Stelzer and his partner K9 Yogi located a firearm and drugs that Liberte is alleged to have tossed during the pursuit on the 500 block of Main St.  Detectives recovered four bundles of heroin and a bag of cocaine.  The firearm was reported stolen out of Vermont.

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm

21-year-old Robin Liberte of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
