SPD Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to an Arrest in Monday’s Murder

This is an update to a previous story.  

Springfield, Mass. —   A Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda led to an arrest in Monday afternoon’s shooting on Mill Street.  41 year old Sean Alexander was arraigned on murder charges Thursday afternoon in Springfield District Court.   The adult male gunshot victim succumbed to his injuries late Wednesday evening at Baystate.

On Monday December 20th at approximately 12:45 p.m. Springfield Police Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Mill Street for a ShotSpotter Activation.  As officers arrived they located an adult male gunshot victim and administered first aid until the victim was transported to Baystate.

The Springfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau began investigating.  The investigation revealed that an argument began and multiple people started fighting.  During the fight an individual pulled out a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.  Detectives identified the suspect as Sean Alexander.  On Monday afternoon Detectives requested and were issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday morning Alexander turned himself into Springfield Police Headquarters.

41 year old Sean Alexander of Springfield is charged with:

  • Murder
  • Firearm Armed Assault to Murder
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
