SPD Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to Arrest in Sunday Morning Murder

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday January 30th Detectives in the Springfield Police Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda and Springfield Police Officers arrested 23-year-old Leshmarie Marin-Viera in connection to the stabbing death of an adult female Sunday morning January 29th.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Sunday Springfield Police Officers responded to the 200 block of Chestnut St. for a report of a stabbing victim. Officers located an adult female stabbing victim in a parking lot on the 100 block of Liberty St. and provided first aid.  AMR arrived and the victim was transported to Baystate where she succumbed to her injuries.

The SPD Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Duda began investigating in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.  

Detectives in the Homicide Unit identified Marin-Viera as a suspect and she turned herself in at Springfield Police Headquarters in the late afternoon on Monday.
