SPD Officers Arrest Two Suspects after Shooting on Albany Street

Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday at approximately 1:45 a.m. Sunday December 12th officers responded to the 400 block of Albany Street for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived they located two victims.  One victim was punched.  The second victim alleged that three suspects pointed firearms at him.

An investigation revealed as that incident was unfolding an unidentified suspect arrived on scene.  A disturbance began between the three suspects and the unidentified individual leading to numerous shots being fired.  Officers located 17 shell casings on Albany Street and two cars were shot.

A short time later a gunshot victim was driven to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks on the 600 block of Liberty Street.  The adult male gunshot victim was transported to Baystate with non-life threatening injuries.  The other two individuals in the car were detained.

The three individuals who arrived at the State Police Barracks were identified as being involved in the initial and subsequent assaults.  Two suspects were placed under arrest.  Officers have requested a criminal complaint for the third suspect, the gunshot victim, for his role in the incident.

27 year old Jonathan Gutierrez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
  • Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle (2 Counts)

31 year old Joseph Colon of Chicopee is charged with:

  • Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
  • Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle (2 Counts)
  • Assault & Battery
