SPD Officers Seize Loaded Firearm after responding to a Gun Call
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday February 16th at approximately 3:05 p.m. Springfield Police Officers recovered a loaded firearm and arrested 28 year old Sylvain Gelin on the 0-100 block of Maynard Street after a foot pursuit.
Around 2:50 p.m. officers responded to the 0-100 block of State Street for a gun call and a report of individuals fighting. Once officers arrived one individual, later identified as Gelin, was pointed out as a person involved and began running from officers. Gelin ran across a busy street and hopped a fence before officers were able to catch up with him and take him into custody. Officers observed Gelin drop a fanny pack just prior to when he was detained. Inside the fanny pack was a loaded firearm. Officers placed Gelin under arrest.
28 year old Sylvain Gelin of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
