SPD Officers Seize Two Firearms after Traffic Stop

Springfield, Mass. — Springfield Police Officers seized two loaded firearms and made two arrests after conducting a traffic stop Monday morning.

At approximately 9:45 a.m. officers responded to the 0-100 block of College Street for a gun call.  Officers then observed the suspect’s vehicle turn onto State Street.  The driver, later identified as Frankie Garner, pulled into an apartment complex on the 800 block of State Street and officers activated their emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop.  Both Garner and his passenger, Cory Yates, were detained pending the investigation.

Officers located two firearms inside the vehicle.  One of the firearms was reported stolen out of West Springfield.  Garner has a previous conviction of 2nd degree murder for a 1998 homicide.

42 year old Cory Yates of Springfield is charged with:

  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200

45 year old Frankie Garner of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
