Springfield Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Striking an Undercover Officer with a Liquor Bottle

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 4:20 p.m. on Thursday July 14th members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Lt. Christopher Collins assisted by members of the Springfield Police Metro Unit and Uniform Division arrested 20-year-old Fabian Rosario on the 0-100 block of High Street.

On Tuesday July 12th, members of the Firearms Investigation Unit were conducting a joint operation with the Massachusetts State Police, Springfield Resident DEA Task Force, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Hampden County Narcotics Task Force when an undercover law enforcement officer was assaulted and chased by a group of individuals on High Street.

Several suspects from the assault and ensuing chase were arrested on Tuesday.  25-year-old Norman Pagan of Springfield, who entered the undercover’s vehicle while the assault was transpiring, was arrested on firearms charges after a gun was located in his fanny pack.  32-year-old Dennis Jordan of Springfield was arrested on cocaine trafficking charges.  43-year-old Juan Torres, who was in the group chasing after the undercover, was arrested on a warrant and other charges.  25-year-old Luis Morales of Springfield, who attempted to trip the undercover officer while he was attempting to escape and had a gun in his possession, was arrested Tuesday evening.

Two suspects remained at large after the assault.  Detectives identified one suspect who struck the undercover in the face and were granted a warrant for his arrest. That suspect is still at large.

Rosario who is alleged to have struck the undercover with a bottle of patron in the face and then threw at rock at him while the undercover was attempting to escape was able to initially get away until he was placed under arrest on Thursday.

On Thursday afternoon Springfield Police Detectives observed Rosario in the area of School and High Streets.  Assisting Detectives and Officers arrived and around 4:15 p.m. attempted to place Rosario into custody.  Rosario ran through an apartment building on School Street attempting to evade the police.  Rosario eventually got out of the building and was placed under arrest on High Street.

20-year-old Fabian Rosario of Springfield is charged with:

  • Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
