Springfield Police Department Promotes Two Captains

Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday May 17th, the Springfield Police Department and Chief of Staff Thomas Ashe on behalf of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno hosted a pinning ceremony for the Department’s newest Captains at the Springfield Police Training Facility on Page Boulevard.

Effective Sunday May 15th, Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood promoted two Lieutenants, Reginald Miller and Brian Beliveau to the rank of Captain.

“Our newest Captains have served our city for more than 50 years combined.  Their experience is invaluable to our young department.  I see them instrumental in providing guidance and leadership to our officers and being able to help us ensure we comply with the new Reform Bill and the DOJ Settlement Agreement,” said Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “Congratulations to Captains Reginald Miller and Brian Beliveau and their families.  These promotions are well earned and deserved.  I want to express my thanks and appreciation to Captains Miller and Beliveau for their continued dedication and service to keeping our residents and business community safe.  Congratulations and God speed.”

Family, friends and fellow officers were in attendance as these long-time Officers reached a prestigious career accolade. Captain Miller was pinned by Superintendent Clapprood while Captain Beliveau was pinned by his father Simon.

Captain Reginald Miller

 

Captain Miller has served the city of Springfield for more than 25 years joining the Springfield Police Department in 1997.  Then Officer Miller was assigned to squad, Community Policing, the Narcotics Bureau and Ordinance Unit before his promotion to Sergeant in 2014.  As an officer, he received a Departmental Commendation in 2008 and a Citation from the Massachusetts State Senate in 1999.

As Sergeant, Miller was a squad and later a C-3 Forest Park Supervisor.  In 2017 Miller was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  Initially assigned to the squad, Miller later was the Commander of the Staff Inspection Bureau, which among other responsibilities is the head of the Body-Worn Camera audit unit.  Miller is also the Commander of the Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team.

Captain Miller is a graduate of Central High School & Western New England University where he received a Master’s Degree and recently completed the Blue Sky Leadership Program presented by Babson College.

Captain Brian Beliveau

Captain Beliveau began his career as a Springfield Police Cadet in 1993 before becoming a Springfield Police Officers in August 1997.  Beliveau served in the squad, Youth Aide and Student Support Bureaus, as well a member of the BADGE Unit and what is now the Emergency Services Unit (ESU).  Beliveau later became the Commander of the ESU a position he currently holds.

In May 2014 Beliveau was promoted to Sergeant where he worked in Squad, C3 and was part of the department’s first Metro Unit assisting with the planning and smooth opening of MGM Springfield.  Beliveau is also a certified Enduro instructor.

In 2018 Beliveau was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he served in the Metro Unit and up until recently the Firearms Investigation Unit.

The Putnam Vocational Technical High School graduate has received five Departmental Commendations as well as a City Council Proclamation.
