Springfield Police FIU Detectives Seize Three Firearms, Trafficking Weight of Cocaine and more than 400 bags of Heroin 

Springfield, Mass — On Tuesday June 28th at approximately 4:40 p.m. members of the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Lt. Christopher Collins seized three firearms, approximately 80 grams of cocaine, more than 400 bags of heroin and $3975 in cash while arresting four suspects in Indian Orchard.

For the past several weeks FIU Detectives have been conducting an illegal firearms investigation.  The suspect, a juvenile, was arrested for possession of a firearm in June 2021 and Detectives received information this juvenile was again illegally possessing a firearm.

On Tuesday afternoon Detectives conducting surveillance located the juvenile suspect along with three other individuals inside a car on Moxon Street in Indian Orchard.  Assisting Detectives and Officers arrived and all four individuals inside the car got out and took off running.

The juvenile fled on foot with a firearm in his hand before tossing the gun.  Detectives detained the 16-year-old on Moxon Street and recovered the loaded large capacity firearm he dropped.

The individual in the driver’s seat who fled, later identified as Oren Anderson, dropped a cross-body purse while running before he was detained.  Detectives recovered more than 50 bags of heroin and more than $3400 in Anderson’s pockets.  Inside the purse was a loaded Ghost Gun, half-packs of heroin and a large bag of cocaine.

A second juvenile fled from the back of the car and dropped a gun while running.  Detectives detained the 16-year-old and recovered the large capacity firearm loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.

A fourth suspect, later identified as Luther Evans, ran into the home of one of the juvenile suspects’ where he was detained and later arrested on drug charges.

Detectives executed a search warrant at that Healy Street home and recovered a large capacity magazine and additional ammunition inside.

The charges for the juveniles are not being released due to their age.

21-year-old Oren Anderson of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Cocaine Trafficking 36-100 Grams
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug

29-year-old Luther Evans of Springfield is charged with:

  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Cocaine Trafficking 36-100 Grams
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
