Springfield Police Officers Seize Loaded Firearm Thursday night

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 10:45pm Thursday officers observed a running car in a parking lot of the CVS on the 600 block of State Street taking up two spaces including a handicap spot.  The car did not have a handicap placard or permit.  The car also was not registered.

An officer approached the driver, later identified as Michael Pinkney, who did not have insurance and his license was suspended.  Officers took Pinkney into custody and located a loaded firearm in his jacket pocket.  Inside the car officers seized crack-cocaine and cocaine inside his jacket.

30 year old Michael Pinkney of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm without a FID
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Class B Drug (Cocaine)
  • Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack-Cocaine)
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
