Springfield Police Officers Stop Catalytic Converter Theft in Progress

Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday July 6th at approximately 2:20 a.m. arrested 45-year-old Tyran Mohown on the 900 block of Boston Road.

Springfield Police Officers were patrolling on Boston Road with their windows down and heard the sound of a hackzall which is a tool used to cut metal and is known to be a tool used in the theft of catalytic converters.  Officers located the sound and observed an individual, later identified as Mohown, under a car.  Officers placed Mohown under arrest.

They recovered a hackzall and a bag with a catalytic converter inside.  The catalytic converter of the car Mohown was located under was still intact.

45-year-old Tyran Mohown of Springfield is charged with:

  • Malicious Damage to a Motor Vehicle (2 Counts)
  • Larceny Under $1200
  • Attempted Larceny Under $1200
  • Possession of a Burglarious Instrument

His booking photo is not immediately available due to the ongoing investigations of catalytic converter thefts in the area.
