Springfield Police Train for Mounted Patrol

Ludlow, Mass. Three members of the Springfield Police Department attended mounted patrol training today at Lupa Zoo in Ludlow. The training is part of the Springfield Police Department’s continued partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department to enhance public safety in Forest Park. Mounted patrols will be present in Forest Park from 8 in the morning until 10 at night until November 30, 2022.

Six Springfield police officers underwent training this week for the Mounted Patrol Unit. Training was conducted by a Hampden County Sheriff’s deputy. Three officers began their training on Monday and an additional three attended training today (Wednesday.) One officer from the department has been certified as a result of prior experience.

Over the past five years, Springfield’s Department of Parks and Recreation has received more than $18 million to invest in park patrols and other measures to ensure continued public safety efforts in the city for both residents and visitors.
