Suspect Arrested Wednesday Faces Two Attempted Murder Charges after Shooting

Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday February 23rd at approximately 7:15 a.m. members of the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and United States Marshals Task Force arrested 36 year old Raymond Fernandez-Hernandez inside an apartment on the 700 block of State Street on a warrant for attempted murder charges.

On Monday February 7th at approximately 5:15 p.m. Springfield Police Officers were on patrol near the 700 block of State Street when they heard gunshots in the area.  A ShotSpotter activation also went off and officers responded to the area of State and Sherman Streets.  Officers located two victims who were shot at multiple times by a known suspect.  They were not struck.

Springfield Police Detectives assigned to the Special Victims Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating and requested an arrest warrant for 36 year old Raymond Fernandez-Hernandez leading to his arrest on Wednesday.

36 year old Raymond Fernandez-Hernandez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Arrest Warrant
    – Attempted Murder
    – Attempted Murder
    – Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
    – Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
    – Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
    –  Threat to Commit a Crime
    – Malicious Damage to a Vehicle
