Update: St. James Avenue Shooting

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 10:45am Wednesday March 23rd officers responded to the 200 block of St. James Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers discovered evidence, but no victims or property damage. Around 11:05am an adult male gunshot victim was located on the 0-100 block of Parker Street. This was related to the initial call on St James Ave. The victim was transported to Baystate with non-life threatening injuries.  This was a targeted shooting and not a random act of violence.  The Springfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau is investigating.

The gunshot victim, 24 year old Amika Blake, had two active arrest warrants for probation violations.  Officers placed Blake under arrest upon his discharge from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.   Blake was previously convicted of three counts of armed robbery in Springfield and East Longmeadow and was on probation after serving his sentence.

Springfield Police Detectives also arrested Blake with other suspects in November 2020 on St. James Avenue on numerous firearms and drug charges.  He was arrested on a warrant on those charges as well.

    – Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
    – Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
    – Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
    – Carrying a Firearm without a License
    – Carrying a Firearm without a LicenseConspiracy to Violate Drug Law
    – Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Arrest Warrant
    – Firearmed  Armed Robbery
