Springfield Police Officers Recover Two Large Capacity Firearms

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday August 3rd at approximately 1:55 a.m., Springfield Police Officers seized two loaded large capacity firearms.

Around 1:15 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Roosevelt Avenue for a report of a disturbance involving a vehicle striking several objects and possibly a parked car.

When officers arrived, they located two individuals in the road who took off running at the sight of police.  Rather quickly officers detained one individual, later identified as Teshaun Dancy.  Officers recovered a loaded firearm from inside his front pocket.  The loaded firearm was capable of holding 15 rounds of ammunition and Dancy was placed under arrest.

 

Officers then turned their attention to the vehicle from the initial call.  The vehicle was inoperable and needed to be towed.  During a search of the vehicle, officers located and recovered a loaded VSKA rifle.  This rifle was loaded with 24 rounds of ammunition.

19-year-old Teshaun Dancy of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Unlicensed Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash
