SPD C3 Officers Seize Large-Capacity Firearm, Trafficking Weight of Cocaine after Traffic Stop

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 8:05 p.m. Monday, members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit along with officers assigned to Squad “C”, seized an illegal large capacity firearm and arrested 36-year-old Hector Navarro after a traffic stop.

Around 8:00 p.m., C3 Officers observed a vehicle in the area of School Street and High Street that was not inspected.  Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Mulberry Street and Maple Street.  When officers approached the car, they could see an extended firearm magazine in a bag on the driver’s side floorboard of the vehicle.

Assisting officers arrived and the driver, Hector Navarro, was removed from the vehicle.  Inside the car, officers recovered a large capacity Ghost Gun that was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, an additional firearm magazine that was holding 30 rounds of ammunition, approximately 80 grams of powder cocaine and more than $2200 in cash.  Navarro was placed under arrest.

36-year-old Hector Navarro of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Covert/Undetectable Firearm
  • Trafficking Cocaine 36-100 Grams
