Can-Am Maverick’s are Not Street Legal in Massachusetts

Springfield, Mass. — The Springfield Police Department is reminding our residents that Can-Am Maverick’s or similar four-wheel off-highway-vehicles (OHV’s) are not street legal in Massachusetts.

Officers have seen these four-wheel OHV’s recently that have out-of-state registration and Massachusetts motorcycle license plates.  These four-wheel OHV’s are not motorcycles.

By law, a motorcycle is any motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, including any bicycle with a motor or driving wheel attached.

Springfield Police Officers can tow the vehicle if it is on any street within city limits.
