K9 Flexx Assists SPD FIU Detectives in Locating Trafficking Weight of Cocaine
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday July 9th at approximately 3:40 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sergeant Jaime Bruno arrested 34-year-old Jose Valentin in connection with drug trafficking.
Over the past month, Detectives have received information about Valentin’s involvement in the illegal sale of narcotics. On Tuesday around 1:00 p.m., Detectives located and conducted mobile surveillance of Valentin who was travelling in his vehicle in the Boston Road area. Detectives then observed Valentin on Division Street make what was believed to be a drug deal.
As Valentin continued to drive in the Forest Park area when assisting Detectives arrived and they conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Sumner Avenue and Cliftwood Street.
While back at 130 Pearl Street, Springfield Police K9 Flexx conducted a search of Valentin’s vehicle. K9 Flexx indicated the presence of drugs in the front cabin of the car.

During a search of the car, Detectives recovered 98 bags of heroin, approximately 12.8 grams of cocaine, approximately 13.2 grams of crack-cocaine and $351 in cash. Detectives placed Valentin under arrest.
34-year-old Jose Valentin of Springfield is charged with:
- Trafficking in Cocaine, 18-36 Grams
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
