SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Police Department will commemorate the ninth anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Springfield Police Officer Kevin Ambrose tomorrow.

WHAT:
The Springfield Police Department will hold a media event Friday to honor the ninth anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Officer Kevin Ambrose.
The event will also be livestreamed on the Springfield Police Department Facebook page.
The commissioner and mayor will provide remarks in the boardroom at the department’s headquarters and will be available for interviews following their remarks.
Officer Ambrose was killed responding to a domestic disturbance at the Lawton Arms Apartments on Lawton Street on June 4, 2012. He was shot while protecting a woman and her child from the woman’s boyfriend. The lives of both the mother and child were saved.
Officer Ambrose had served with the Springfield Police Department for 36 years. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and grandchild.
As part of the department’s protocol honoring Officer Ambrose’s service, a police cruiser with blue lights flashing will be outside police headquarters and a wreath will be laid at the Fallen Officer Memorial. Father Bill Hamilton will also offer a prayer and dispatch will hold a moment of silence.
