Officer Struck by Car While Conducting a Traffic Detail
Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday January 18th at approximately 6:45 p.m., Springfield Police Officers and Chicopee Police Officers arrested Taysia Williamson in connection with a crash involving a police officer.
Around 4:15 p.m., a Springfield Police Officer was working an extra detail outside the MassMutual Center. He was conducting traffic (pedestrian and motor vehicle) control at the intersection of State Street and Main Street.
Williamson was in a vehicle stopped at the red light on State Street at the Main Street intersection. The lane she was in, cannot make a left turn onto Main Street. The officer informed the driver that she could not make a left turn. Williamson is then alleged to have ignored the officer’s instructions and the street signs to turn onto Main Street. Williamson is alleged to have driven her vehicle into the officer who landed on the hood of the car. Williamson then continued to drive away from the crash.
Around 6:45 p.m., officers located Williamson on the 100 block of Broadway Street in Chicopee and placed her under arrest. The officer suffered minor injuries.
30-year-old Taysia Williamson of Chicopee is charged with:
- Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for Police
