Shots Fired at Barbershop Leads to Three Arrests

Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday August 15th at approximately 10:40 a.m., members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit, Springfield Police Officer, Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit Detectives and K9 Unit arrested three suspects and seized a loaded large-capacity firearm after a shooting.

Around 10:10 a.m., officers working an extra detail were informed about a shooting at a barbershop on the 500 block of St. James Avenue.  The officers saw a vehicle then speed away from the barbershop.

C3 Officers were in the area observed the suspect vehicle turn onto State Street from St. James Avenue.  Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Victor Cabrera-Quinones, was weaving in and out of traffic and running red lights, putting the public at high risk.  Cabrera-Quinones then got caught in traffic and gave himself up.  Officers located and recovered a firearm inside the car.  The firearm was capable of holding 12 rounds of ammunition.  Cabrera-Quinones was placed under arrest.

Officers responding to the barbershop observed two individuals, Jesus Cabrera and Juan Rios, attempting to get rid of a shell casing from the incident.  Officers then placed those subjects under arrest.  No one was injured during the shooting.

43-year-old Victor Cabrera-Quinones of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Larceny of a Firearm
  • Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Arrest Warrant – Lowell District Court
    – Assault & Battery on a Family/Household Member
  • Arrest Warrant – Lowell District Court
    – Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

45-year-old Jesus Cabrera of Springfield is charged with:

  • Tampering or destruction of evidence
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device

38-year-old Juan Rios of Springfield is charged with:

  • Tampering or destruction of evidence
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
