SPD Detective Bureau Investigation Leads to Arrest of Shooting Suspect Wearing a GPS Ankle Bracelet

Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday July 16th at approximately 2:50 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), Massachusetts State Police VFAS and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department arrested 29-year-old David Beadle on the 200 block of Hancock Street.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday June 29th, officers responded to the 0-100 block of Dunmoreland St. for multiple ShotSpotter activations. Officers located two gunshot victims on scene and a third who was privately transported to Mercy. All had non-life-threatening injuries.  Five vehicles and two homes were also struck by gunfire.

The SPD Detective Bureau under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating. One of the shooting suspects was also one of the gunshot victims and he was placed under arrest at Baystate.

On July 16th, Detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for a second shooting suspect from that incident, David Beadle.  FIU Detectives were aware that Beadle had a suspended license and while attempting to locate him on Brandon Avenue, observed him get into a vehicle and drive away.  Assisting Detectives arrived and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle on the 200 block of Hancock Street and placed Beadle under arrest.

At the time of this arrest, Beadle was out on bail from a firearms case in Hampden Superior Court.  At the time of that arrest in May 2023, Beadle was out on bail from a separate firearms case.

Beadle was released on the condition that he must wear a GPS ankle bracelet which he was wearing when he was arrested.  Beadle also has numerous felony convictions.

Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers stated, “I’d like to thank our Detective Bureau under the direction of Trent Duda for their diligent work in this investigation and our FIU under the direction of Brian Keenan for their professionalism they continue to exhibit while taking another dangerous subject into custody.  There was a teenager girl and a mother shot.  Thank God they’re going to be okay.  Several cars and houses struck.  Tragedy averted but at what cost?  This is senseless violence that stems from too many bad actors with illegal guns, and it truly impacts our community.  There is no one solution to this epidemic of gun violence, but I know if we all work together, we can make our city safer and make these young men think twice before pulling the trigger.”

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “Here we go again, I am once again outraged that some of our judges and court system continue to not hold gun toting violent offenders accountable.  Instead, they empower and embolden them to go out and commit more hideous crimes against my residents. Again, the missing link here is judicial. We have a revolving door of repeat, violent, gun toting offenders who are not being held as they should. These terrible crimes could be prevented. I continued to question what it will take for our court system to take action and protect our community. I urge, again, for some of our judges and court system; #1, to hold and keep these repeat violent gun toting offenders off our streets and out of our neighborhoods and schools, and #2, to our state Legislature to pass my Bail Reform legislation, thankfully sponsored and re-filed by state Representative Angelo J. Puppolo.”
