SPD Detective Bureau Investigation Leads to the Arrest of a Shooting Suspect in West Springfield

Springfield, Mass — On Thursday May 11th at approximately 11:15 a.m. members of the West Springfield Police Department, Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS West and United States Marshals Task Force arrested 22-year-old Louis Olmo at an apartment on the 100 block of Birch Park Circle in West Springfield on a warrant for firearms and sexual assault charges.

On April 12th, Springfield Police Officers responded to the 100 block of Belmont Avenue for a report of two gunshot victims.  An adult female was on scene suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and later transported to Baystate.

An adult male, later identified as Olmo, was privately transported to Baystate with serious injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  The firearm was seized at the hospital.

Springfield Police Detectives began investigating and applied for and were granted a warrant for Olmo’s arrest.  Olmo is alleged to have accidentally shot himself and the female victim while attempting to sexual assault her.

22-year-old Louis Olmo of Springfield is charged with:

  • Arrest Warrant
    – Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
    – Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
    – Assault to Rape
