SPD FIU Arrest Stafford Street Shooting Suspect
Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 18th, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) and Emergency Services Unit (ESU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan, Sergeant Jaime Bruno and Sergeant David Robillard, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Massachusetts State Police VFAS and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department arrested 37-year-old Luis Colon in connection with a shooting on Stafford Street Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to an apartment building on the 100 block of Stafford Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers located an adult female gunshot victim who was transported to Baystate with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Springfield Police Detective Bureau under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating. On Tuesday night, Detectives identified a suspect, applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest.
On Wednesday afternoon, Detectives located Colon near the intersection of Frank B. Murray Street and Main Street and placed him under arrest for two warrants. Detectives also seized a loaded firearm and drugs from Colon.
37-year-old Luis Colon of Springfield is charged with:
- Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Possession of a Class A Drug – Subsequent Offense
- Possession of a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense
- Arrest Warrant
– Assault & Battery by discharging a Firearm
– Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
– Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
– Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)
– Stalking - Arrest Warrant
– Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
– Malicious Destruction of Property Less than $1200
– Armed Burglary
– Larceny under $1200
