SPD FIU Detectives Seize AK-47 Style Rifle, Drugs & Arrest Three Suspects

Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday March 20th at approximately 6:45 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Sgt. Christopher Hitas seized an AK-47 style rifle, MDMA, cash and marijuana while arresting three suspects in the Metro area of the city.

FIU Detectives were conducting an investigation on Wednesday with 24-year-old Dadin Davis as the suspect.  Detectives located a vehicle Davis was travelling in and conducted a traffic stop.  Dadin Davis who was the front passenger, Tanight Benton the driver and Raekwon Davis the rear passenger were removed from the car.

Detectives immediately located an AK-47 style rifle on the front passenger side floorboard.  The firearm was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 30 rounds. The firearm was also reported stolen from Detroit, Michigan.

During a search of the vehicle, Detectives also recovered 86 MDMA pills, $2750 in cash and 23 bags of marijuana.  The three occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest.

This is the 12th illegal firearm seized by the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit so far in March.

24-year-old Dadin Davis of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200

23-year-old Tanight Benton of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200

25-year-old Raekwon Davis of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
