SPD FIU Detectives Seize Illegal Firearm, Heroin and Cocaine in Response to Citizen Complaints of Open-Air Drug Dealing

Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday August 6th at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Sgt. Jaime Bruno and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department seized a large capacity firearm, heroin, cocaine and cash and made three arrests in connection to drug activity in the Worthington Street area.

The Springfield Police have been listening to its residents about open air drug activity in the area of Worthington and Federal Streets.  There have also been numerous recent ShotSpotter activations in that same area.

On Tuesday members of the FIU conducted surveillance in the area.  Almost immediately they observed a suspected drug deal on the 900 block of Worthington Street.  A suspect, Geovonney Aguilar, got into a car and was observed making a suspected drug deal.  Once the vehicle drove away Detectives conducted a traffic stop on Elm Street.  The driver, later identified as Daisy Bocachica, had crack-cocaine in her purse and she was placed under arrest.

Concurrently, Detectives maintained surveillance on Aguilar and saw him make additional suspected drug deals.  Detectives then approached Aguilar when he began to run away.  After a short foot pursuit, a gun fell out of Aguilar’s hoodie pocket, and he was placed under arrest.  The loaded firearm was capable of holding 15 rounds of ammunition and also reported stolen out of South Carolina.

While Detectives were dealing with Aguilar, they observed another suspect, later identified as Victor Tanon, throw a container on the ground.  This container was recovered with 24 vials of cocaine inside.  Detectives placed Tanon under arrest.

Detectives recovered the illegal firearm, $120, 7 bags of heroin, 23 vials of crack-cocaine and 23 vials of cocaine from Aguilar.  Detectives also recovered 2 vials of crack-cocaine from Bocachica and 24 vials of cocaine, 2 bags of heroin and $55 from Tanon.

19-year-old Geovonney Aguilar of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Four Counts)
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug

59-year-old Victor Tanon of Springfield is charged with:

  • Distribution of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug

51-year-old Daisy Bocachica of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Class B Drug
