SPD FIU Detectives Seize Large-Capacity Firearm, Mushroom Bars and Other Drugs

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday February 14th at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) seized a loaded, stolen, large-capacity firearm, mushrooms, oxycodone and marijuana while arresting two suspects on the 700 block of State Street.

Earlier in the day, FIU Detectives were attempting to locate a 17-year-old juvenile male who had an active arrest warrant.  Around 5:30 p.m., Detectives observed the juvenile and a second subject, later identified as Keyshawn Watson, get into a car together on the 700 block of State Street.  Detectives then conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

The juvenile driver was placed under arrest and located Watson holding marijuana.  During a search of the car, Detectives recovered a loaded firearm, oxycodone, additional marijuana and mushroom bars.  Watson was also placed under arrest.

The firearm, which was reported stolen out of New Hampshire, was loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.  Detectives also seized approximately 175 mushroom bars, 15.5 oxycodone pills, 43 grams (1.5 ounces) of marijuana and $830 in cash.

21-year-old Keyshawn Watson of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class C Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law

Due to his age, the 17-year-old suspect’s name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.
