SPD FIU Detectives Seize Loaded Ghost Gun
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday May 16th at approximately, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan along with members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department seized a loaded Ghost Gun and arrested three suspects after an investigation.
For the past several months members of the FIU have been investigating Deavon Spencer for illegally possessing a firearm. On Thursday FIU Detectives located Spencer in a vehicle and began to surveil it. Detectives conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of State Street and St. James Avenue.
Spencer was in the passenger seat and a female later identified as Jerrika Ortiz was driving and a female later identified as Neva’eh Best was in the back seat.
During a search of the vehicle, Detectives recovered a loaded Ghost Gun, more than 100 grams of marijuana and nine Clonazepam pills.
Spencer, Ortiz and Best were placed under arrest.
24-year-old Deavon Spencer of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Violation of a Firearm Surrender Order
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class C Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
20-year-old Jerrika Ortiz of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Violation of a Firearm Surrender Order
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class C Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
- Arrest Warrant
21-year-old Neva’eh Best of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class C Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
