SPD FIU Seized Five Illegal Firearms: Two Machine Guns, Eight Glock Switches
Springfield, Mass. — On Friday February 9th at approximately 6:20 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Sgt. David Robillard, members of the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) under the direction of Lt. Matthew Benoit and members of the Springfield Police C3 North End Unit under the direction of Lt. Julio Toledo seized five illegal firearms including two machine guns, eight sear-selector switches and a trafficking amount of cocaine after executing a search warrant on the 200 block of Plainfield Street.
On Friday afternoon Detectives assigned to the Firearms Investigation Unit received information that 18-year-old Jemsen Ortiz was currently in possession of a firearm with a sear-selector switch also known as a Glock switch attached. This mechanism when attached to a firearm makes the firearm a fully automatic machine gun.
Detectives then applied for and were a granted a search warrant for Ortiz’ home on Plainfield Street. FIU Detectives along with members of the ESU and C3 North End Unit then executed the warrant and detained the five individuals inside the home including Ortiz.
During a search of the home Detectives recovered five illegal firearms, eight Glock switches, 13 large-capacity magazines (16 total) and drugs. Ortiz, Angel Vazquez and Eduardo Clavijo were placed under arrest.

- Firearm Loaded with 20 Rounds of Ammunition and capable of holding 28 Rounds

- Firearm Loaded with 20 rounds of Ammunition
- Firearm Loaded with 10 rounds of Ammunition
- Eight unattached Sear Selector Switches
- 31 Round Magazine Loaded with 31 Rounds of Ammunition
- Two 17 Round Magazines, both Loaded with 17 rounds of Ammunition
- Two 13 Round Magazines, both Loaded with 13 Rounds of Ammunition
- 10 Round Magazine Loaded with 10 Rounds of Ammunition
- 10 Round Magazine Loaded with Six Rounds of Ammunition
- Unloaded 31 Round Magazine
- Unloaded 10+ Round Magazine
- Unloaded 50 Round Drum Magazine
- 55 rounds of loose Ammunition
- $4643 in Cash
- Approximately 24 grams of Cocaine

- Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Three Counts)
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
- Possession of a High-Capacity Feeding Device (Six Counts)
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Improper Storage of a Large-Capacity Firearm
- Trafficking Cocaine (18-36 Grams)

41-year-old Angel Vazquez of Springfield is charged with:
