SPD FIU Seizes Kilo of Cocaine, Firearm; K9 Flexx Locates Drugs
Springfield, Mass. — On Monday April 15th at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan with the assistance of the Springfield Police K-9 Unit seized a kilogram of cocaine and a loaded firearm while arresting two suspects on the 500 block of Plainfield Street.
Detectives in the FIU received information on Monday that Emanuel Pizzaro and Idelberto Soto were in possession of a large quantity of cocaine. Around 11:45 a.m. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on Plainfield Street. Detectives detained the driver, Pizzaro, and his passenger Soto. Detectives seized a semi-automatic handgun from Soto.
At this point, Detectives requested Springfield Police K-9 Flexx to assist. K-9 Flexx detected the presence of narcotics in the car. Detectives then recovered one kilogram of cocaine from inside the vehicle. Pizzaro and Soto were placed under arrest.
34-year-old Emanuel Pizzaro of Springfield is charged with:
- Trafficking in Cocaine – 200 Grams or More
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws
23-year-old Idelberto Soto of Springfield is charged with:
- Trafficking in Cocaine – 200 Grams or More
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
