SPD Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to an Arrest in Locust Street Murder
Springfield, Mass. — On Monday May 13th at approximately 10:30 a.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Massachusetts State Police CINRET West, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 24-year-old Jonathan Resto inside an apartment on the 100 block of Mill Street in connection with Friday’s homicide on Locust Street.
On Friday May 10th at approximately 1:35 a.m., officers responded to a gas station on the 0-100 block of Locust Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers located an adult male gunshot victim who succumbed to his injuries on scene.
The Springfield Police Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating and were able to identify a suspect that same day. On Friday May 10th, Homicide Detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Resto, who was ultimately located and arrested on Monday.
This is an ongoing investigation conducted by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit. Resto is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Monday afternoon.

– Carrying a Firearm without a License
– Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
– Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
