SPD Officers Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday August 14th at approximately 5:00 a.m., Springfield Police Officers arrested 22-year-old Edwin Velazquez-Rodriguez in connection with an armed robbery.
Around 4:00 a.m., officers were approached by a victim on the 100 block of State Street who was injured and stated he was just assaulted. The victim stated he was assaulted with a box cutter by an individual trying to steal his bicycle.
Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) reviewed video and provided a description of the suspect to the officers on scene. Officers then located this suspect, later identified as Velazquez-Rodriguez, at the intersection of Main Street and Wilcox Street and he was placed under arrest. Velazquez-Rodriguez also had an outstanding default warrant from an arrest on August 8th, 2024.
22-year-old Edwin Velazquez-Rodriguez of Springfield is charged with:

- Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Default Warrant

– Deface Property
– Attempt to Commit a Crime
