SPD Officers Arrest Arson Suspect, Extinguish Fire with 16 People Inside
Springfield, Mass. — Around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 25th, officers were patrolling on the 500 block of Union Street when they observed a large fire around a multi-family home. Officers located a suspect standing next to a gasoline can. The suspect began to run, and officers detained her while simultaneously putting out the fire that was igniting around the house. Sixteen people were inside the home at the time of the fire, and all got out safely.
The suspect, a 16-year-old female, was placed under arrest.
Due to her age, her name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.
The Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad is investigating.
