SPD Officers Arrest Juvenile after Striking Officer with Stolen Car

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 11:35 a.m. on Saturday November 16th, Springfield Police Officers assigned to the C3 Unti, Traffic Unit and Squad “B” uniform division, arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male after he is alleged to have been driving a stolen car, striking an officer attempting to stop the vehicle.

A short time earlier officers located a stolen Hyundai parked at a gas station on the 0-100 block of Boston Road.   The vehicle was reported stolen on November 14th.  The car was running and had four occupants.  Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as the 16-year-old juvenile male who was arrested, reversed the vehicle.  This action led to an officer being struck by the vehicle in the arm and the driver nearly striking two other officers.

The driver evaded police in the parking lot by going over a curb and onto Berkshire Avenue.  Officers lost sight of the car until they located it, crashed on the 400 block of Berkshire Avenue.

The occupants ran into the woods and officers were able to locate and arrest the 16-year-old driver.

Due to his age, his name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.

The officer who was struck by the car was treated and released from Baystate for an arm injury.
