SPD Officers Recover Firearm after School Threat

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Thursday September 5th, Springfield Police Officers responded to a Charter School in connection with a threat made by a student towards the school.  The school administration informed officers a student made a threat to shoot up the school. The student allegedly showed staff a video of themself holding a firearm.

Officers then responded to the 15-year-old students’ home and were allowed to search the home.  The 15-year-old was home, but Officers did not locate a firearm.

A Springfield Police Officer then located a report of a recent disturbance involving a firearm that linked this student to another 15-year-old who attends a different school.

Officers were able to locate the second 15-year-old’s home and received permission to search it.  This 15-year-old was also home and around 11:30 a.m., a Supervisor in the Firearms Investigation Unit located the firearm in a bedroom.  This firearm is believed to be the same one from the video.  The 15-year-old was placed under arrest.  To be clear this 15-year-old did not make any threats in connection with a school.  The recovered firearm was reported stolen out of Worcester.

Due to his age, the suspects names, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.
